چکیده

Acute experiments on cats under chloralose anesthesia were designed to study the role of the brain stem in the transmission of the interhemispheric delayed response (IDR). Experiments on interaction of potentials recorded in brain stem and at cortex led to the conclusion that the IDR is relayed to the contra-lateral hemisphere via routes which pass through the general area of the mesencephalic reticular formation. Other brain-stem areas, not directly in the pathway, also have access to the cortical fields discharging the IDR. During passage through the mesencephalon and elaboration at the cortex the IDR comes under the influence of afferent activity. To a more or less considerable extent, depending on the time relationships, this interaction is reciprocal. Characteristics of the IDR were investigated and the findings confirmed in preparations with brains radically split longitudinally in the mid-line. An integrative function based upon cortical-brain-stem-cortical and afferent activity is suggested for the IDR system.

Brain mapping of bilateral visual interactions in children.

Interhemispheric interactions were studied with functional brain mapping of visual processing. Children performed a reaction time task with uni- and bilateral targets and nontargets. The visual evoked potential (VEP) was segmented into P1a, P1b, and N1 microstates using map rather than channel features. Map latencies, amplitudes and sources were tested for bilateral interactions. Bilateral targ...

Motor Control and Neural Plasticity through Interhemispheric Interactions

The corpus callosum, which is the largest white matter structure in the human brain, connects the 2 cerebral hemispheres. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the independent processing of the hemispheres and in integrating information between both hemispheres. The functional integrity of interhemispheric interactions can be tested electrophysiologically in humans by using transcranial magnet...

Comparison of Transplantation of Bone Marrow Stromal Cells (BMSC) and Stem Cell Mobilization by Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor after Traumatic Brain Injury in Rat

Background: Recent clinical studies of treating traumatic brain injury (TBI) with autologous adult stem cells led us to compare effect of intravenous injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) and bone marrow hematopoietic stem cell mobilization, induced by granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), in rats with a cortical compact device. Methods: Forty adult male Wistar rats w...

Effects of core auditory cortex deactivation on neuronal response to simple and complex acoustic signals in the contralateral anterior auditory field.

Interhemispheric communication has been implicated in various functions of sensory signal processing and perception. Despite ample evidence demonstrating this phenomenon in the visual and somatosensory systems, to date, limited functional assessment of transcallosal transmission during periods of acoustic signal exposure has hindered our understanding of the role of interhemispheric connections...

Age and Gender Effects On Auditory Brain Stem Response (ABR)

Objectives: Auditory Brain Stem Response (ABR) is a result of eight nerve and brain stem nuclei stimulation. Several factors may affect the latencies, interpeak latencies and amplitudes in ABR especially sex and age. In this study, age and sex influence on ABR were studied. Methods: This study was performed on 120 cases (60 males and 60 females) at Akhavan rehabilitation center of university...
